I was told I needed a pacemaker at age 22…
So… I set out to find out why. Here’s my story…
I’ve always had a desire to understand how things work and I don’t always believe what I am told.
As a child, I suffered with asthma, allergies and various other symptoms that nobody ever seemed to have any answers for. My Mum, a registered nurse, would take me from doctor to doctor to specialist in an effort to better understand and treat my conditions. I’d be put on various medications and nothing ever seemed to make a difference for any length of time.
I began to dread going to doctors, I could always feel my Mum’s frustration having to leave the doctor’s office, with yet another test saying everything was fine. Of course we wanted everything to be fine but everything was not fine and we never seemed to be able to get the answers that would help me get better.
In my early 20s I was diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome, and 1st and 2nd degree heart block. The heart block would often cause me to faint, and in one instance, I even broke my arm. With my desire for understanding the how and why, I went searching but again was left feeling frustrated when doctors could not give me any adequate answer as to why this was happening and again, only offered band-aid solutions to try and treat my symptoms. One specialist suggested I be fitted with a pacemaker.
A pacemaker at 22? Hell no! I knew there had to be another way.
There was a knowing inside of me, telling me that a pacemaker was not the solution, that there had to be more to my condition than the doctors were aware of or leading me to believe. I felt I had no choice but to seek answers elsewhere, as I was sure there must be more knowledge out there on what was causing these imbalances and issues in my body.
So my interest was sparked… And I became kind of obsessed.
Over the following 8 years, I studied Massage and Advanced Diplomas in Naturopathy, Nutrition and Herbal Medicine – full time. I gained knowledge and insight into the functioning, biochemical and physiological processes of our body. Whilst also appreciating the dynamics our mind, spirit, emotions, beliefs, lifestyle choices and genetics also have on our ultimate wellbeing.
I was finally starting to understand why no one had ever been able to give me the answers before.
You see, conventional medicine aims to understand disease via the body’s mechanics, that is each organ/system has its own way of operating, independent of other organs and systems, and when the machine/organ is broken we fix it, by either inhibiting certain actions with medication or simply removing the broken part, or better yet inserting a new part that bypasses the broken part. This method does have its place, especially in acute/emergency situations. But this outlook on the human body meant, those trying to help me were never really able to explain what the core of my issues were. Nor were they trying to treat the core, everything was a symptom band-aid without ever truly understanding the why behind my problems.
And so…With this new found holistic and functional way of approaching health, I was finally able take control of my health. And guess what… No more heart problems, No more asthma and No more IBS symptoms. I know my root causes and triggers and with the help of homoeopathics, herbs and nutritional medicine I can now assist my body to function at its best. I can help you to.
But my journey with health didn’t end there…
A few years later, my transition into motherhood was one of the toughest times in my life. I struggled with postnatal anxiety and depression, severe sleep deprivation and nutrient depletion following a traumatic birth. And, after all of that, I was crazy enough to go round two…
On my mission to having a second baby, I experienced fertility issues and multiple miscarriages. You can read further about my journey of fertility, pre-conception, pregnancy, birth and post partum in my blogs, for further insight and pearls of wisdom here.
I now have two healthy and beautiful daughters Cleone (5) and Felicity (1) and I believe it’s the most rewarding job in the world (helping you with your health, coming in at a close second).
After all that I’ve experienced over the years in regards to my health, I knew that helping people with theirs was the only way forward for me. Helping others come back into balance, feel well again and finally get to the core of the issue is what makes me feel alive.
Truly my life mission.
